Course requirements:
regular attendance;
preparation of HHH chapters using the discussions tool, answering questions provided by topic experts, selecting those aspects of most relevance for German students; please remember to always bring the HHH and at least one dictionary to each class;
intensive preparation of five topics for use in class with examples of mistakes and models and advance questions and comments for all students using the discussions tool, read details here;
submission of a minimum of four written assignments plus a minimum of one evaluation as detailed below.

General requirements for all written assignments:
fulfill the formal requirements for all essays and learning logs: printed front and back of the page, font size 14, double-spaced, margins of 2 cm top, bottom, left and right, justified right-hand margin with paragraphs clearly marked using indentation; all paragraphs and lines must be numbered for the evaluator;
remind yourself of the serious consequences of plagiarism (see our policy online). Plagiarism will result in an automatic grade of 6* with immediate expulsion from the course and notification of all instructors in the department!

The following minimum of four written assignments with no more than one assignment to be turned in each week:
shorter essay  (no less than three, no more than four sides = two pages) to be brought as homework to the first class;
at least one longer essay on an academic topic (no less than five sides, no more than six sides = three pages) with evaluation for the longer essay (following the tabular format exactly with each page numbered), all pages printed front and back and put in my university mailbox in one plastic cover (Klarsichthülle) per packet for the essay (each packet must include essay and evaluation sheet together unstapled); in order to give me a good chance of returning your essays within a week, please reserve rolling deadlines for the longer essay with evaluation sheet using the sign-up sheet tool in Blackboard;
at least two reflective learning logs (no less than one, no more than two sides = one page hard copy only) dealing with your progress in writing and possibly including HHH exercises of your choice or alternatives to mistakes marked in your essays, general suggestions about the course or any relevant comments about your writing; please turn in each learning log only after you have received the previous one with my comments;
 an optional second longer essay (for extra credit) under exam conditions (four hours with use of one of the accepted dictionaries) on an exam topic of your choice;
an optional additional shorter essay  on an exam topic of your choice (no less than three, no more than four sides = two pages) with evaluation for the shorter essay including three areas that you as writer have especially tried to improve on.

The following assignments are for the evaluators to give to the writers of the longer and shorter essays, who will complete the sheets and turn in the evaluations together with their essays:
at least one evaluation for the longer essay,
an optional evaluation for the shorter essay (can be either an evaluation of the first homework essay or of any additional shorter essay).
