Competition Day 2: Defending top position (successfully!)

April fools!

Hi guys, the previous post was a joke.

Speech recognition test: Five referees asking questions from different positions around Lisa
Speech recognition test: Five referees asking questions from different positions around Lisa.

After a short night resting in the arena, Lisa was very well prepared for her next tasks:

  1. In the first of the today’s games, LISA had to recognize the questions asked by the operator and answer them. LISA performed well despite the poor sound conditions caused by the the crowd surrounding the arena. She had a perfect first run before she weakened slightly, but nevertheless in this task we got 100 points.

  2. At midday Lisa was keeping up the good results of the previous games during the Navigation tests. In this task the robot had to reach a set of waypoints avoiding obstacles on its path, following a person outside and guide that person back to the arena. LISA completed most of the subtasks that contained obstacle detection and replanning as well as following the operator.

  3. The last challenge for today was “GPSR” (General Purpose Service Robot) with a very varied and challenging tasks, since it contains the wide combination of many different functionalities. Lisa had a few problems recognizing the speech commands, but she understood the command with a little help of the operator. The tasks weren’t executed completely. However, she reached many locations and tried well to grap the objects. A special case for the gripping action was the height of the table top in the kitchen due to the arm’s reaching area.

On the next day, there will be the Stage II with more exciting challenges. Keep your fingers crossed!
